Sinéad Frost is a London-based bassoonist hailing from Cork, Ireland. At a very young age, she played percussion with the local Ballincollig Concert Band, led by John O’Connor and attended Suzuki violin lessons with Tomás McCarthy at the Gaelscoil, Ballincollig. These progressed to receiving lessons on cello with Joan Scannell and percussion with Jimmy Hynes in the then County Cork School of Music. Her interest in all things orchestral was nurtured through the Cork ETB Youth Orchestra, Cork Youth Orchestra and the National Youth Orchestra of Ireland.
After receiving her BMus degree with first class honours from the MTU Cork School of Music, during which she spent a year studying at Hochschüle für Musik und Theater, Leipzig, Sinéad went on to complete her MA degree at the Royal Academy of Music, London.
She plays bassoon/contrabassoon regularly in Ireland with the RTÉ Concert and Symphony Orchestras, Irish Chamber Orchestra, Ulster Orchestra, Wexford Festival Opera, Cork Opera House Concert Orchestra, and enjoys a busy life as a freelance orchestral and chamber musician in London.
As principal bassoon of St. Endellion Music Festival, she has performed alongside singers Mark Padmore, Susan Bullock, Roderick Williams, Sir John Tomlinson and BAFTA winning actor Rory Kinnear.
Personal highlights include collaborations with Irish folk groups Altan and De Dannan; singers Bryn Terfel, Ute Lemper; Brendan Gleeson, Evelyn Glennie and conductors Sir Simon Rattle, the late Sir Colin Davis, Martyn Brabbins, John Wilson, Jaime Martin.
With a particular love for opera and theatre, she has been delighted to work with the Cork Operatic Society and Everyman Cork, which has seen her perform entire operas from memory to critical acclaim.
