Jack Mahony is a fourth year Bachelor of Music student at the MTU Cork School of Music. Raised in West Cork, Jack began his musical education at the age of eleven under the tutelage of Gerard Condon at the Cork ETB School of Music in Clonakilty.
Having played Euphonium in the Clonakilty Brass Band for many years, Jack went on to study Trombone with Tony Neal at third level. While mainly focusing on tenor trombone at the Cork School of Music, Jack also studies alto and bass trombones. He has received masterclasses from world renowned trombonists such as Katy Jones (Hallé Orchestra), Jesper Busk Sørensen (Berlin Philharmonic), David Rejano (Los Angeles Philharmonic) and with jazz trumpeter, Adam Rapa. Apart from his love for performance, Jack is an avid orchestrator/arranger and regularly orchestrates for all kinds of ensembles, from jazz big band to symphony orchestra.
Jack is a keen orchestral trombonist and is the principal trombonist of the CSM Symphony Orchestra. He regularly performs with SinfoNua, Cork Concert and Fleischmann Orchestras. Not forgetting his roots, Jack is an accomplished band player, performing with the Irish Youth Wind Ensemble, Irish Symphonic Wind Orchestra and Cork Philharmonic Winds.
During his studies at the Cork School of Music, Jack gained a love and understanding for jazz and is the lead trombone of the CSM Jazz Big Band, as well as playing bass trombone with the Cork City Jazz Orchestra. After completing his studies at the MTU Cork School of Music, Jack hopes to enter the professional music world as performer, orchestrator and arranger.
