Sean Walsh was a student with CETBSM from 1996-2002, studying Traditional Music with Martin Power in Coláiste Chairbre, Dunmanway. Under Martin’s tuition, Sean achieved numerous successes at County, Munster and All-Ireland level in the Fleadhanna Cheoil competitions. He then progressed to study Music and Gaeilge in UCC from 2002-2005 where he was nominated as the recipient of the UCC Traditional Music Scholarship for excellence in traditional music performance. In 2005, he was the inaugural winner of the CCSM Past Pupil of the Year award. Sean graduated from the University of Limerick in 2006 with a Graduate Diploma in Music Education and returned to work with CCSM as a traditional music teacher in Schull, Skibbereen and Clonakilty.
Following the retirement of his former teacher and mentor Martin Power in 2012, Sean succeeded Martin as the traditional music teacher in the CCSM Dunmanway Centre in Maria Immaculata Community College. He has also held the position of Music Teacher in Schull Community College since 2012. In addition to his teaching duties, Sean is actively involved with Comhaltas Ceoltóirí Éireann as Munster Council PRO and over the last 15 years he has tutored numerous céilí bands and grupaí cheoil from Skibbereen Comhaltas to All-Ireland honours in the Fleadhanna Cheoil. He is a traditional music examiner for the Comhaltas SCT Exams as well as a Leaving Cert music examiner for the State Exams Commission. He also regularly adjudicates at Fleadhanna Cheoil around Ireland each year.
